Undergraduate Admission Requirements

University Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the first year of undergraduate programs at University Canada West, students must have a minimum average of 65%.

The average is calculated based on the British Columbia grade for English 12 (or equivalent) and the best three additional academic Grade 12 subjects. Students must also have scored 65% or better in Principles of Mathematics 11.

Students who do not meet the minimum admission requirements or those who are denied permission to register or re-register may ask to have the application reviewed if they are able to prove extenuating circumstances.

Requests for Review, outlining the extenuating circumstances, should be sent to the Registrar’s Office at registrar@universitycanadawest.ca.

Flexible (Mature Student) Admission

Applications can be made under flexible (mature student) status. To qualify for flexible admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been out of school for at least two years
  • Be 21 years of age or older, on or before the first day of classes
  • Have demonstrated a potential for success through academic, professional or volunteer activities and other accomplishments

Applications are reviewed individually by the Admissions department.

Mature students must submit:

  • An official secondary school transcript, sent directly from the school.  The university cannot accept unofficial transcripts for the purpose of application processing
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (any colleges, universities, or vocational schools) the student has attended
  • A detailed, chronological resume showing progression in the student’s education and career
  • A Letter of Intent clearly explaining why the applicant is applying as a mature student and outlining the student’s academic intentions.  The letter should provide background information and describe any personal qualities that the student feels would contribute to academic success at the university
  • A $150 application fee submitted to an Enrolment Representative

English Language Requirements for International Students
English is the language of instruction at University Canada West.  If a student’s first language is not English, one of the following must be submitted:

  • English 12 or equivalent from a Canadian secondary school, with a grade of 65% or better
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 213 (computer-based test) or 86 (internet-based test)
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) overall score of 6.0 or better, with no band less than 5.5
  • LPI (Language Proficiency Index) score of 5 or better

Applicants must arrange for the testing agency / institution to send these scores directly to the Registrar’s Office at University Canada West.
