University Learning Goals & Personal Development
University Canada West values the lessons learned beyond the classroom as much as those learned within. Students and faculty strive to achieve the following learning goals which are not only essential for the workplace after graduation, but are also beneficial as life lessons.Professionalism Graduates will have practiced, understood, and appreciated the value of professionalism, a character trait which shows maturity and confidence. They will utilize the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to demonstrate a professional, ethical, and disciplined demeanour in the workplace. Attitude Graduates will have learned the power of self-motivation and positive thinking. We believe that successful students are those who are motivated to achieve personal and academic goals, pursue or initiate opportunities, and participate in extracurricular activities or interests. Graduates who maintain a positive attitude throughout their academic career will find greater success inside and outside of the classroom. Critical Thinking Graduates will have learned how to think reasonably, responsibly, and reflectively. They will be prepared to make critical decisions after efficiently and accurately processing information. Upon graduation they will have understood the importance of continuing to improve their problem solving skills and practicing methods of reasoning and evaluation. Leadership and Collaboration Graduates will not only become leaders of the next generation, but also team players who value the importance of collaboration and team work. They will learn about leadership skills including decision-making, research and organizational skills, and critical thinking. Graduates will also participate in group projects that foster interpersonal skills and teach cooperation and negotiation. Communication Graduates will learn how to communicate clearly and effectively in speech and writing. As the reliance on face-to-face interaction decreases with technological advancements, graduates will be able to communicate with a diverse audience using various mediums and channels. Graduates will solve communication barriers, understanding how to foster conversation or successfully deliver messages to a range of audiences. |
