Admissions Process and Requirements

Undergraduate Degrees

Admission Requirements

To be considered for a University of Canada West undergraduate program, the following admission requirements must be met:

1.  Non-refundable application fee of CDN $150.00

2.  High school graduate

  • Minimum of 65% overall average in senior high school
  • Minimum of 65% in Math 11
  • English language requirements:

    If applicant attended all of senior high school in which the official language of instruction is English, then the applicant must have achieved a minimum of 65% in English 12. The applicant must provide a certified letter from the school indicating that English is the official language of instruction.

    For applicants who attended a high school where English is NOT the official language of instruction, students may satisfy the English language requirement through achievement of the minimum score on one of the following:
             
    • TOEFL (paper-based test); 575
    • TOEFL (computer-based test);233
    • TOEFL (internet-based test); 86
    • IELTS; 6.5 overall (with no individual score of less than 6.0)
    • LPI;  5
    • TOEIC; 750

* NOTE: If the applicant is unable to meet the English language requirement listed above, University Canada West offers an English for Academic Purposes program (EAP). EAP is an academic language bridging program that provides the student with the skills and confidence in English to ensure successful studies at University Canada West. Documents Required for a Conditional Letter of Acceptance into Undergraduate Degrees

  1. Completed application form and payment of a non-refundable application fee of CDN$150.00 are required. Payment can be made by money order, bank draft or credit card authorization by fax (Visa or MasterCard).
  2. First term tuition payment (5 courses) - Non-refundable fee unless study visa is denied.
  3. Photocopy of official high school transcript indicating graduation* OR photocopy of official post-secondary transcripts showing completion of a minimum of Year 1 of studies in a degree program at a recognized institution*
  4. Photocopy of information page of valid passport
  5. Photocopy of official proof of English (if available)

*NOTE: Where transcripts are in a language other than English, the applicant must provide an English translation of the original transcripts from a certified translator or from the high school, on official school letterhead.

NOTE: All post-secondary credits may be considered for transfer credits into University Canada West programs (CDN $50.00 per successfully waived course).

Requirements for Full Acceptance into Undergraduate Degree

  • 1. Copy of valid Study Permit
  • 2. Original and official high school transcripts indicating graduation*

OR

Original and official post-secondary transcripts showing completion of a minimum of Year 1 of studies in a degree program at a recognized institution *

*NOTE:  All transcripts must either be directly sent from high school/post-secondary school or delivered in a sealed school envelope.

  • 3. Proof of English through submission of original and official test score (see requirements above). The date the test was taken must be within two years of application to University Canada West.
  • 4. Comprehensive course evaluation of all post-secondary coursework through a recognized service.

 

Graduate Degrees

To be considered for a University of Canada West graduate program, the following admission requirements must be met:

 

Admission Requirements for Graduate Degrees

  1. Non-refundable application fee of CDN $150.00
  2. First term tuition payment (2 courses) - Non-refundable fee unless study visa is denied
  3. Either a three-year, 90 credit, or a four-year, 120 credit undergraduate degree from a recognized institution that is the equivalent of a North American degree, with a B average or better in the final year of the program.
  4. Students with a business degree in administration, management or commerce may enter the accelerated MBA. Students with a non-business degree will be considered for the two-year MBA. *
  5. English language requirements:

    If the applicant attended a university in which the official language of instruction is English, then the applicant must provide a certified letter from the school indicating that English is the official language of instruction.  Alternatively, if the applicant attended a high school where English is the official language of instruction and achieved a 65% in English 12, then the applicant may provide an official copy of his/her transcripts and a certified letter from the school indicating that English is the official language of instruction.

Off-Campus Work Permit Program

To be eligible for an Off-Campus Work Permit, the student must:

  • have a valid study permit
  • study at a participating institution (for a list of participating institutions in the Off-Campus Work Permit Program go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/study/institutions/participants.asp#bc. University Canada West is a participating institution.
  • have been a full-time student for 6 months preceding the date of your work permit application
  • be in satisfactory academic standing 
  • Undergraduate - Maintain a GPA of 2.0
  • Graduate - Maintain a GPA of 3.0
  • sign a form authorizing the institution, the province, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to share your personal information (to confirm that you are continuing to study full time and that you are in satisfactory academic standing)

All forms must be completed and brought in for the Registrar to sign and stamp before the student can mail it to CIC.
